Description of Duties: | We are looking for applicants who can welcome people into our space with kindness and compassion, who can reflect Klinic's values through their work, and who bring an openness to learning and growth. We'll provide extra training to help you do this work in a way that feels trauma-informed and supportive of equity and choice, and some extra learning about communication, and privacy in health care. |
Skills Required: | Our Welcome Volunteers will be one of the first people visitors speak with when they arrive at Klinic, so English language skills and communications skills are especially important. Extra languages and knowledge of different cultures would definitely be an asset, as well as experience living in our neighborhood. Welcome Volunteers will also spend a lot of time on their feet, and should have some comfort in approaching and speaking to new people. -Preference will be given to community members living in the area. - Awareness and understanding of Klinic's feminist, pro-choice, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive values, and the ability to work in a way that reflects these values. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - Open to learning, hearing feedback, and growth. - Thoughtful, attentive to detail, and organized. - Friendly personality and a genuine interest in helping others. - Ability to work with trauma impacted populations with patience and kindness. - Understanding and respectful of the diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in the community and at Klinic. - Awareness and comfort with harm reduction principles. - Ability to understand and express oneself in English, in a clear, concise manner. - Ability to uphold the Klinic and WRHA policies on confidentiality. Applicants will need to attend an interview and provide some references before beginning in this position, and also need to be willing to apply for a Criminal Record Check, a Child Abuse Registry Check, and an Adult Abuse Registry Check. (Child & Adult Abuse Registry Checks can be obtained through Klinic at no charge.) Applicants also need to be at least 18 years of age. |

Time Commitment: | Daytime , Evening , Weekend We are asking for a commitment of one 3-hour shift each week for six months (at the same time each week), or 4 shifts throughout the month scheduled week-to-week.
