Organizational Description: The Needs Centre provides accessible services and support to immigrant and refugee children and youth, and their families. Our goal is to enhance their integration into Canadian society by providing youth with employment, education and social recreation programs supported by psycho-social educators.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Volunteers assist a classroom instructor to deliver curriculum, help supervise, and aid with EAL and life-skills program components designed to help newcomer youth settle into Canadian society. Program runs Monday through Friday 8:30 - 3:30 pm.
Skills Required: Responsible, reliable, patient, tolerant, committed to the program, must be a positive role model (no criminal record or current gang activity). Experience working with youth an asset but not necessarily required
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Work with youth, program facilitation, gain leadership and communication skills. Learn about issues facing immigrants and refugees
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
2-3 hours per week minimum 3 months
