Organizational Description: The Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba (LDAM) provides information, referral, and support for individuals with learning disabilities (LD) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), their families and the professionals who work with them. LDAM is a United Way supported agency that also receives grants and carries out fundraising activities to help fulfill our mission. LDAM's vision is to help people impacted by learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders to reach their goals and live better lives.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: -lead one student through a given lesson plan containing guided reading, phonetics, spelling, sight words and writing (training & feedback is provided)
-play games
-write notes about the child and how the lesson went and concerns which may arise
Skills Required: -basic literacy skills
-patience & a sense of humour
-flexibility in scheduling
-ability to follow direction, work independently and as a team member
*no applicants under age 15, please
Skills Gained/Related Careers: -improved literacy skills
-experience working with children with learning disabilities
*if you do not have a Child Abuse Registry Check, we can get one done for you
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
1 or 1.5 hours twice a week for 8 - 10 weeks LINKS: Monday & Wednesday Jan. 9 - Mar. 20with time slot choices of 4:30-5:30, 5:35-6:35, or 6:40-7:40 LINKS+: Tuesday & Thursday Jan. 22 - Mar. 14 from 5-6 (or 5-6:30) LINKS Tuesday & Thursday Jan. 15 - Mar. 21 from 6:45-7:45 *It is preferable that you are available both days of the week for student consistency -Contact Person: Shaunna Wall, B.Ed., OGCE 204-774-1821 ext. 5
