Organizational Description: Volunteer Services is dedicated to improving patient care and the quality of life for patients, visitors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre. HSC Volunteers fill a variety of roles in adult patient care, the Children's Hospital, retail and food services, PsycHealth, Rehab Hospital etc.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: -To rove between all HSC Public Entrances like the William Avenue Entrances and the 820 Sherbrook Entrance watching for patients and visitors needing direction.
-Direct or escort patients and/or families/friends to the appropriate areas as needed.
-Provide information, support to patients and visitors.
-Carry companion phone and be available for escorting, special requests from Emergency or Volunteer Services.
-Honor the code of confidentiality at all times.
-Be a friendly host to all. It is NOT your responsibility to enforce the HSC smoke free grounds policy.
-May be asked to help back up/support admitting and flower delivery volunteers when necessary.
-Assist in finding wheelchairs/staxi chairs and return to all entrances.
Skills Required: -Friendly, welcoming personality!
-Able to follow directions and comfortable approaching people.
-Must be able and interested in walking and standing for the entire shift; and physically able to push wheelchairs.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: -This role will assist volunteers in learning the many different clinics and areas within HSC.
-A great opportunity to build experience in customer service.

Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
Shifts can start as early as 7:00 am. Shifts vary in length; 2-4 hours long.
