Description of Duties:

Position Summary:


The Accessibility Coordinator supports the Director in ensuring that all Pride Winnipeg events are accessible and inclusive for all attendees. This role focuses on assisting with accessibility planning, site compliance, and event execution to provide a welcoming and barrier-free experience.


Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Assist in executing Pride Winnipeg's Accessibility Operations Plan.

  • Support the identification and setup of accessible spaces at all events.

  • Help ensure attendees are informed of accessibility features before events.

  • Conduct accessibility site checks and address issues before event openings.

  • Assist with accessibility training and orientation for volunteers and Managing Members.

  • Work with event managers to ensure entrances, exits, and pathways meet accessibility standards.

  • Help implement event hazard controls and risk assessments in collaboration with the Health & Safety team.

  • Support the selection of third-party accessibility services and firms as needed.

  • Document and report on accessibility concerns, incidents, and improvements to the Accessibility Director.

  • Contribute to the annual Accessibility Review and report findings to the Board of Directors.

   
Skills Required:

  • Passion for accessibility and inclusivity.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work well within a team, with external partners and individually.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices (training is an asset).

  • Knowledge of barriers that folks with disabilities and 2SLGBTQIA+ community face is an asset.

  • Familiarity with event planning and risk management is an asset.
