Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's (WRHA) Community Health and Corporate Services Volunteer Program provides meaningful public engagement, develops effective partnerships, mobilizes appropriate volunteer and community resources, supports a positive working environment and enhances the WRHA's capacity to support and deliver quality services.

Volunteers are placed in the community, supporting a variety of programs within Public Health, Primary Care and Corporate.

Description of Duties:

Volunteer shifts take place on alternate Tuesdays between approximately 10:00 am and 3:00 pm


Purpose: Volunteers in this role are responsible for organizing and distributing food hampers to families, individuals, adult school programs, 55+ residents, and MB Housing residents within the community.


Food insecurity remains a hidden challenge in our area, with limited access for vulnerable families to pick up essential food hampers. At the same time, the rising cost of groceries, combined with stagnant wages, has forced many families and individuals to choose between food and other critical household expenses, including housing.

Skills Required:

  • Physical requirements include carrying, lifting and transferring groceries and hampers

  • Works well in a team environment comprised of volunteers and staff

  • Attend all volunteer orientation and training requirements prior to first scheduled shift

  • Ability to understand, give direction and express oneself in English in a clear, concise manner

  • Must respect the WRHA policies on confidentiality and dress code

Time Commitment:

Length of Commitment: Minimum commitment of 3 months is preferred, or longer.


Shifts: 1 shift per week, alternate Tuesdays 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, start and end times may vary.
