Organizational Description: The College has been the professional regulator for Registered Nurses (RNs) in Manitoba since 1913. Our mandate is to protect and serve the public interest. We establish and maintain a registration process that ensures RNs are qualified and competent. We set and maintain nursing practice standards for RNs. We approve nursing education programs, and we receive and investigate complaints about the nursing practice and conduct of RNs.

Description of Duties:

• Responsible for investigating complaints about the conduct of RNs and, when appropriate, attempting to resolve them informally.


• Appointees serve a 3-year term


• Meetings are held at least once a month


• Meetings are currently conducted virtually, although in-person meetings may eventually resume. A hybrid of
in-person and virtual participation may also be possible.


• A substantial amount of reading is required to review complaints/reports about RNs, monitor ongoing files and
make decisions regarding the disposition of each case.


• Please note that once your application is successful, your name will be put forward as nomination to the Roster of Public Representatives under the Government of Manitoba for Cabinet Minister's consideration and approval.

   
Skills Required:

• Members of the public must not be registered with the College of Registered Nurses and has not practiced any
other regulated health profession within the previous five years


• Possessing an excellent analytical and critical thinking skills


• Understands the College's mandate to serve and protect public interest


• Able to work effectively as a team towards consensus


• Have reliable computer and internet access


• Proficient computer skills and ability to work in Word software and products including Outlook and SharePoint
(training provided).


• Able to serve the duration of the appointment term

The Committee is comprised of registered nurses and public representatives. It meets at least once a month. All material for the meeting is provided and supported by a staff liaison. A stipend is offered for committee work. We reimburse rural and northern committee members for expenses when travel is required.
