Organizational Description: | Ted's Run for Literacy was established in 2010 following the death of Ted Swain on May 3rd, 2009. Ted was a passionate teacher of English at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg. He was also a dedicated running coach who nurtured hundreds of novice runners. Ted is remembered fondly by the running community with whom he identified to his last step. To date, Ted's Run for Literacy has raised almost $100,000 to help break the cycle of childhood poverty. Description of Duties: | Assist in directing runners and traffic along the designated race course in and around Kildonan Park, Winnipeg, MB, call for medical assistance if a runner needs, and have fun cheering for the run participants as they pass by! We are also looking for bike marshals to ride the course on their bike. |
Skills Required: | Ability to stand or sit for several hours outside, rain or shine. General enthusiasm to create positive energy along the course. |

Time Commitment: | Daytime , Weekend This run is held Sunday, September 29th, 2024. Volunteers will be asked to meet at Kildonan Park at 9:00am. The run will be over by 11:30am with volunteers able to leave their post when the last participant has gone past their volunteer post. Maximum commitment on the day is about 2.5 hours. Volunteers are invited to enjoy the festivities at the finish line after. Communication with the individual volunteer position and description of duties will be sent before race day, so about 20 minutes to review that information at home prior to September 29th will be required. |
