Organizational Description: Frontier College is a national literacy organization operating a wide variety of programs in locations across Canada.

We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants.

As Canada's original literacy organization, Frontier College has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Our programs have helped millions of Canadians improve their literacy skills, and we would love to welcome your involvement in continuing this meaningful work.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Frontier College operates a numbers of literacy support programs across Winnipeg, all with the focus of helping children,youth, adults, and families who want to improve their literacy skills. We work with many community-based organizations to deliver volunteer-run, community-focused programs.
Currently our programming are full of wonderful volunteers, We are asking all new applicants to wait until the start of our Fall programming in September 2018. We will contact you then for an interview and invite you to our training in the fall.
We are currently recruiting Volunteer Tutors to support our Fall programs across Winnipeg. We believe everyone have the ability to support other community members improve their literacy or English language skills, and we will provide free training to anyone accepted as a Frontier College volunteer. We will continue to provide you with any additional support or resources throughout your tutoring experience.

Skills Required: We are seeking individuals who:
- Want to help others improve their literacy
- Are committed to and reliable for at least 2 hours of volunteering per week
- Are comfortable working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and literacy levels
- Are enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding
- Want to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others

**Please note that unfortunately we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16.**
Skills Gained/Related Careers: As a volunteer with Frontier College, you will gain:
- Classroom experience
- Literacy tutoring skills
- Experience in supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds, different literacy levels, including EAL learners and individuals with learning disabilities
- Experience assisting children and adults with formative language abilities - great for parents and anybody working with young children!
Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
Our core programming runs from September through June, and we are currently accepting applicants for our volunteer recruitment beginning Fall 2018. Ideally we ask that our volunteers can commit to 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.We have a variety of opportunities to explore, working with all age groups and backgrounds!
