Organizational Description: Actionmarguerite, located at 1149 Leila Avenue, commonly known as St. Joseph's Residence is a personal care home serving a culturally-diverse elderly community in Northwest Winnipeg. The home was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1923 and operated as St. Joseph's Hospital on Salter Avenue. It was then transferred to the Benedictine Sisters in 1973 who proceeded to build a 100-bed personal care home at the current location.

Description of Duties:

The Roman Catholic Spiritual Health Services Volunteer will provide support to the priest, Deacon, Spiritual Health Services staff and members of the Actionmarguerite community. As a Roman Catholic Spiritual Health Services Volunteer, you may participate in serving Mass, distributing communion, programming/playing music or supporting the chapel in other ways as requested by the clergy or Spiritual Health Services staff.

   
Skills Required:

  • Practicing, communicant Roman Catholic

  • Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist is desirable.

  • Maintains a strong traditional personal faith practice.

  • Experience as a lay minister or in clergy support an asset.

  • Must be at least 12 years old.

  • Ability to work independently as well as respond well to direction.

  • Must demonstrate maturity in communicating with others.

  • Must show responsibility in meeting commitment (i.e., punctual and consistent attendance as scheduled)

  • Must show ability and interest in working with persons supported by Actionmarguerite

  • Must be willing to work cooperatively with clergy, staff, family and/or medical personnel.

  • Ability to lead, support and assist other volunteers at Mass

  • May be asked to push persons supported by Actionmarguerite in wheelchairs as needed.

  • Acceptable Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry Checks and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.

  • Acceptable reference checks.
