Organizational Description: | Ted's Run for Literacy was established in 2010 following the death of Ted Swain on May 3rd, 2009. Ted was a passionate teacher of English at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg. He was also a dedicated running coach who nurtured hundreds of novice runners. Ted is remembered fondly by the running community with whom he identified to his last step. To date, Ted's Run for Literacy has raised almost $100,000 to help break the cycle of childhood poverty. Description of Duties: | Be a part of the organizing committee for Ted's Run for Literacy! Assist in connecting with local organizations to provide monetary and in-kind donations to go towards the operations of the run. Donations go towards things like advertising, water stations, race kits, snacks, tent rentals, U-haul rental, porta-potty rental, medals, signage, and more. Ted's Run for Literacy financially supports the Learn & Play program overseen by the Winnipeg Foundation and CanU after school program. The more we can contribute to these organizations, the better!! This volunteer will also be involved with general set-up and help on the day of the race. |

Time Commitment: | Daytime , Evening , Weekend The organizing committee for Ted's Run for Literacy meets about 6-8 times leading up to the race day. These meetings are usually weekday evenings for about 2 hours each. The day of the race involves about 4-5 hours of commitment on a Sunday morning in September. Approximately 10 hours of time outside of meetings will be needed to spend time emailing, writing, calling potential and established donors throughout the months leading up to the run. |
