Organizational Description: | About FIXT POINT's previous work: To date, we've interviewed over 3,000 Canadians from every province and territory in almost 200 communities in our storymobiles (mobile recording studio on wheels); edited and posted hundreds of oral histories on our storymap; produced two seasons of a TV/web series for TVO; and, most recently, we were awarded Touring Artist of the Year from the Canadian Arts Presenting Association (CAPACOA). Description of Duties: | The Empathy Squad program trains and equips youth aged 18 to 30 years from across Canada to generate empathy-building dialogue through the collection of stories and interviews and the creation of podcasts. The Empathy Squad program is made possible by the Canada Service Corps. As an Empathy Squad volunteer, your experience will centre around gaining and practising skills in: Recording audio interviews with community members; using audio-editing software to put together podcast piece; engage in Zoom session containing live demonstrations, video training, speaking with guest artists; presenting created podcast piece to an audience. Skills Required: | The Empathy Squad is delivered completely virtually and is designed for individuals with varying backgrounds and prior experience in interviewing, audio recording, audio editing, narrative shaping, and podcast creation. This program will equip you with these skills through which you will learn side-by-side your peers and from facilitators and industry professionals from all over Canada! |

Time Commitment: | Evening , Weekend , Remote Volunteering Approximately 12 hours a week of commitment from January to March 2024. The Empathy Squad sessions, comprised of training, demonstrations, and listening and sharing, amongst other activities, range from 1 to 3 sessions a week.
