Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's (WRHA) Community Health and Corporate Services Volunteer Program provides meaningful public engagement, develops effective partnerships, mobilizes appropriate volunteer and community resources, supports a positive working environment and enhances the WRHA's capacity to support and deliver quality services.

Volunteers are placed in the community, supporting a variety of programs within Public Health, Primary Care and Corporate.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Community Nutrition Educators (CNEs) are trained volunteers who provide reliable, unbiased, and current information on healthy eating and food to the community. CNEs work with a variety of people and groups in all community areas of Winnipeg. Some examples of activities and topics include:

Facilitate workshops on topics such as: healthy eating and food skills, grocery shopping, healthy relationships with food, and information about food systems.
Conduct cooking demonstrations with a variety of recipes.
Skills Required: -Basic knowledge and experience in food selection, preparation, and storage
-Food Handlers Training Certification course is an asset, but not required
-An ability to facilitate and share information.
-Time to participate in training sessions
-Skills in reading and speaking English. Ability to speak French is an asset.
-Experience in community work, leadership or as a volunteer, is an asset
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Learn more about safe food handling and nutrition, share knowledge and skills to help others in the community. Meet new people and an opportunity to develop and practice communication and leadership skills.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Micro Volunteering
Be available to attend 28+ hours of blended training offered in-person and virtual (dates pending September) Shifts are negotiated based on community requests, successful candidates must fulfill 3 requests per year, and commit to a minimum of one year. Shifts are typically 2 hours in length.
