Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Comedy Festival was the brainchild of Lara Rae and CBC Radio's Tom Anniko, who worked in partnership with the Gas Station Arts Centre to bring the first comedy festival to life in 2002. Since its founding year, the festival remains the GSAC's flagship event and has come to include year-round outreach programs, rural tours, workshops, and television broadcasts that attract over 2 million viewers annually thanks to the hard work of the WCF team. The Winnipeg Comedy Festival is proud to be the highest rated comedy festival series on CBC Television.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Running from May 2 - 7th, 2023, The Winnipeg Comedy Festival is the Gas Station Arts Centre's flagship event. Throughout the week, the WCF plays host to performers in venues across Winnipeg as they share their comedic excellence in a range of formats. The WCF is home to a year-round outreach program, rural tours, workshops, and television broadcasts that attract over 2 million views annually.

Available Positions

Audience Ambassador
You will be the first point of contact many of the festival patrons will have! Welcome guests to their venues, help them find their seats, tear tickets, and answer any questions they may have. Note: This position is an accessible position with responsibilities that can easily be assigned to meet your needs.

Box Office Attendant
Here you will be selling and redeeming tickets! This position requires that you are comfortable handling money and completing the appropriate administrative tasks required to open and close a box office. Training is provided on-site. Note: There is one step up into the GSAC Box Office.

Bartender
Selling beverages to festival patrons. Serving it Safe certificate required, in addition to experience handling cash.

Festival Ambassador
Be the face of the festival at the Winnipeg Airport! Promote the festival to airport guests and liaise with the transportation crew to ensure efficient transportation of festival guests to and from their hotels. These shifts require that volunteers are available during the day and are comfortable working independently.

Transportation
Help make sure our performers and crew get to where they need to be on time. This position requires a valid driver's license.

Hotel
Help support the Festival Hub, by being a friendly face for festival guests to get information, arrange transportation and connect with festival staff. This position requires daytime availability. This is a great position for folks, where being seated is needed or preferred.

Time Requirement

Minimum 1 shift during the week of the festival. Most shifts are approximately 3 hours. Evening and daytime shifts are available.
Orientation

A general orientation is held for volunteers one to two weeks prior to the festival. On-site training will be provided as needed.

Enjoy the show on us! For every 4 hours you volunteer you will be provided with one free ticket to a show of your choosing for you or a guest (some restrictions apply). Note: Once your shift is complete and if capacity allows, volunteers are invited to stay and enjoy the show!

A range of times are available. Scheduling is done base on volunteer availability. Most opportunities are evening and weekend, however some day-time shifts are available.
