Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Opportunities for Independence Inc. is seeking nominations for volunteers for our Board of Directors. We are interested in candidates with a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise that will further the growth and development of our organization.

Opportunities for Independence is a not-for-profit charitable organization, incorporated since 1984. Our agency works with youth and adults who live with intellectual disabilities and/or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), most of whom have come into conflict with the law. We increase community safety through active programming that enables our participants to find safe housing, access participant-centered supports and make better choices.
Skills Required: Experience in the Justice system, social work or finance are definite assets, along with prior experience serving on a Board of Directors and an understanding of the role of a Director. Candidates must provide a clear Criminal Record Search with Vulnerable Sector Search. Candidate cannot be in active bankruptcy.

Approved candidates shall serve as directors and officers without remuneration, and no director or office who is also a director shall directly or indirectly receive any profit from his position as a director or officer; provided that a director or officer who is also a director may be paid reasonable expenses, incurred by him or her in the performance of his or her duties.
