DASCH supports people living in over 50 homes throughout Winnipeg. People can participate in personalized social, educational, vocational and recreational services that provide learning opportunities and greater independence.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Position Summary:

Volunteers in this position will spend quality time interacting one-on-one with the people we support in a casual setting. This may include reading, playing games, baking, community events or other interactive activities that the people we support can look forward to.

We aim to match your interests and personality to best align with the interests and personality of a person we support.

Role & Responsibilities:

-Serve as a positive role model for the people we support.
-Provide the people we support with emotional and social care in a respectful and thoughtful manner.
-Engage with the people we support, by devoting your full attention to them during your volunteer time.
-Promote independence and encourage decision-making through recognition and respect of their interest and choices.
-Transport people we support to and from activities and home in a safe and careful manner (if applicable).
-Maintain effective communication with DASCH staff and supervisors to ensure coordination of roles and responsibilities.
Skills Required: -Fluent in English.
-Smart device with internet access is required for communication.
-Positive attitude and enthusiasm.
-Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
-Sound knowledge of intellectual disabilities is an asset.
-Full or Intermediate Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License for any volunteer transporting the people we support or using any DASCH vehicle for any purpose.
