Organizational Description: The MS Society provides services to people with multiple sclerosis and their families and funds research to find the cause and cure for this disease. We have a membership of over 7,000 and are the only national voluntary organization in Canada that supports both MS research and services. Since our founding in 1948, the core support of the MS Society has been from tens of thousands of dedicated individuals, companies and foundations in communities across Canada. The Society receives almost no funding from government.

The MS Society is governed by a board of directors comprised of 14 volunteer members who are elected annually.

Some 1,500 volunteers serve on MS Society national, division and chapter boards and committees. An estimated 13,500 women and men are volunteers for service programs, fundraising events, public awareness campaigns and social action activities.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the team at the MS Society to
ensure we have support from a fantastic group of Day of Event Volunteers. You will have the
opportunity to connect with your local community to recruit enough volunteers to fill various
volunteer roles and instruct them on event day.
- Identify the volunteer positions needed, as well as the required number of volunteers
needed, to successfully execute the local Walk plan
- Recruit Event Day Volunteers with the support of the MS Society Volunteer Experience
team to ensure there are enough volunteers to support the event
- Assign volunteers to various volunteer roles based on their interests and strengths
- Clearly communicate to each volunteer their role, responsibilities, start/end times before
the event weekend.
- Ensure that all volunteers check in, then report to their Area Coordinator for instruction
and support.
- Recognize volunteers for their contributions on the day and post-event
- Be agile on event day, tracking volunteer's activities during the event and repositioning
volunteers as needed to provide the best coverage
- Champion the Walk in your community by promoting the event and recruiting
participants and day-of-event volunteers
Skills Required: - Energizing and Positive Attitude. A friendly face helps create a fun atmosphere!
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational and customer service skills
- Passion for supporting the MS Community and funding MS research
- Basic computer proficiency including email, internet searches, Word, Excel
- Self-motivated and reliable; able to fulfill duties on time
- Must be comfortable making decisions and problem solving with limited supervision.

Time Commitment:
- Long-term (November- June). Hours will vary based on the size of your community event. Hours will increase as the event approaches. We estimate these roles will take between 1-3 hours per month. - Meet online via Teams once or twice a month - Must be available to attend the event at the end of May for approximately 8 hours
