Organizational Description: Skate Canada Manitoba (SCMB) is a non-profit Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) for Skating and Figure Skating. SCMB supports quality skating programs that contribute to the growth of our sport and improve the development of all members throughout their skating journey for fun, fitness and achievement.

Skating is at the heart of what we do and we are passionate about making a difference in our sport through collaboration, respect and excellence. We have a dedicated volunteer board of directors and several volunteer committees who deliver programming, resources and initiatives to participants across our province. The work of our board and committees is integral to our clubs, officials and participants.

Description of Duties:

Seeking volunteers to assist with the Skate Canada Challenge - Junior/Senior competition Nov. 28 - Dec. 1, 2024. At this national event, there will be over 200 junior and senior skaters from across the country vying for a shot to compete at the 2025 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships. Volunteers will carry out a variety of essential tasks and roles at the official Skate Canada event sites, including arena(s) and hotel(s). There are several distinct areas in which volunteers may choose to work; general, venue operations, hotel and registration and transportation. Skills Required:

There are a variety of skill sets that will be required in different positions, including but not limited to:
Must be a minimum of 15 years of age by March 5, 2024. Some exceptions apply for specific positions.
Ability to create a welcoming environment for competitors, team personnel, media and spectators.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as part of a team in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to perform varying levels of manual labour.
Background in figure skating and knowledge of the sport an asset.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-energy environment.
Ability to deal with unexpected and difficult situations.
Language skills - ability to work in English and French is an asset.

A normal volunteer day will be six to eight hours, including breaks. Minimum requested volunteer commitment over duration of event is 16 hours total.
