Description of Duties: Hearthstone is a non-profit that provides Community Living and Programs to persons with intellectual disabilities in the Selkirk Area since 1992.
Hearthstone is Certified by Imagine Canada (for meeting high standards for Board governance)
Hearthstone is certified by Gentle Teaching International


POSITION: Member, Hearthstone Community Group, Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Hearthstone Community Group. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the Hearthstone Community Group.

TERM: As per bylaws

To serve the board as a voting member; to develop policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of Hearthstone Community Group in compliance with the Corporations Act and the articles and by-laws of the organization; to monitor finances of the organization, its programs and performance; to act honestly and in good faith; to exercise the care, diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in comparable circumstances.

Leadership and management responsibilities:
- Review and approve the monthly financial statements
- Evaluate the board's effectiveness annually
- Maintain and up-date long range business plans
- Actively participate in discussions and organizational decision making by sharing your opinions, knowledge and expertise
- Be prepared to assume a leadership role

Organizational Responsibilities
- Attend Board meetings with acceptable frequency - as per the by-laws
- Serve as a member of a standing committee as needed
- Attend standing committee meetings as required
- Be well informed on issues and agenda items in advance of meetings by reading meeting package material and by seeking additional information to aid in constructive discussion
- Participate as an ad-hoc committee member if appointed
- Attend and participate in recognized public relations/fund raising events as needed
- Ability to focus time and talent on important work that supports the organization
- Ability to value the diversity and strengths of all board members
- Willingness to develop knowledge and skills necessary for the effective governance of the organization
- Ability to promote positive working relationships among board members

TIME COMMITMENT - The Board meets approximately 10 times a year for 3-4 hours at times convenient for all the Board Members
