Organizational Description: | UAS Eastern European Adoptions Inc. is a private, non-profit adoption agency licensed by the Manitoba Government. Adoption and facilitation services are provided in accordance with the Adoption Act, the Province of Manitoba and the Inter-Country Adoption (Hague Convention) Act. The UAS team consists of the Executive Director, Program Supervisor, Registered Social Workers and Post Adoption Support Coordinator. The management team consists of a Board of Directors and Advisory Consultants. UAS is also pleased to have an extensive local, national and international support network. UAS recognizes every child's right to grow and develop in a loving and understanding family environment. The child's best interests are our first priority when providing adoption and facilitation services. |

Volunteer Opportunity Details | |
Description of Duties: | Members of the Board have a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that the organization does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals. Board Members believe in the purpose and the mission of the organization, and I act responsibly and prudently as its steward. Objectives: 1. To aid orphans from Eastern Europe by facilitating the adoption process for adoptive families in Manitoba who wish to adopt orphaned children from Eastern Europe, in accordance to the Adoption Act, Province of Manitoba and the Inter-country Adoption (Hague Convention) Act. 2. To provide support services and resources to adoptive families, before and after the adoption. 3. To educate the families and the general community about Eastern European culture. 4. To provide toys and clothing, medicines, educational supplies, necessities for life and similar items for children who remain in orphanage care. |

Time Commitment: | Evening The Board of Directors meets regularly on a quarterly basis (in-person, phone, virtual) and as needed for special circumstances. Meetings with the Government of Manitoba Child Protection Branch occur quarterly during the day (attendance is optional for most members). It is recommended all members attend at least one education session held for prospective adoptive parents over a weekend (Saturday-Sunday). |
