Organizational Description: We are looking for a group of volunteers to come in Sunday and Mondays to do some activities with our seniors here at amber meadow, this place is an assisted/ independent place where our seniors love to do activities such as Bingo, bowling, painting, bocce ball and lots more! We need a kind and out going person to work with our residents!
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: For this volunteer opportunity you would need to just have some fun with our residents doing some games, I work with senior citizens and when I'm off during the week, they don't have much to do which is why I'm looking for some volunteers! If this is something that your interested in come on into Amber Meadow! (320 Pipeline Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2P 2X5) You would be do doing such things as, calling a bingo game, playing bocce ball, running an art class, doing a half hour seated exercise program in the morning, organizing games/ leading the games to do with the residents. And you can stay for a half day from 9-12 or a full day from 9-4!
Skills Required: We need a very outgoing individual who is kind hearted and loves working with seniors! Willing to listen and engage in conversation with our residents, as well as Someone who loves to learn or teach games for our seniors to play, and to be able to problem solve on the fly if a game doesn't go as planned, and of course the most important thing, is develop a relationship with our residents, because that is what is going to make this volunteer experience unforgettable!
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Some skills you can gain from this opportunity is getting a better understanding of how the brain works when in the aging process, how Alzheimer's affects their day to day life, how past injuries affect them today. You can also gain great communication skills because all our residents love to hear story's and what's better than having someone to hear all your coolest adventures! By doing an opportunity like this, it may also get you interested in the heath care career, or something to do with working with seniors, in a care home, independent living.
Age: 17 and under, 18-30
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
The days in which you would come in would be Sundays, Mondays and maybe a few Tuesdays (if you are available). You can do a full day or even just a half day, whatever works best for you! Sundays and Mondays would need to be a full day from 9-4, so if you can only work half a day, see if one of your other volunteer friends can come in for the other half of the day!
