Organizational Description: College of Midwives of Manitoba is the regulatory body for the profession of midwifery in Manitoba.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The College of Midwives of Manitoba is seeking public representatives for appointment to its governing Council and/or committees.

Public representatives:
- contribute to public protection
- support quality midwifery care
- serve Manitobans by helping to regulate the profession of midwifery

- Willing to uphold the public interest and safety mandate of the CMM
- Knowledge of and willing to remain current with issues related to midwifery
- Sensitive to issues of culture, equity, diversity and inclusion
- Willing to complete Indigenous cultural safety training
- Familiar with consensus decision-making
- Ability to identify conflicts of interest
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Critical thinking skills
- Commitment to participating in orientation and on-going education regarding regulation/governance
- Commitment to preparing for and attending meetings as per the pre-determined schedule
- Commitment to uphold the concept of the board/committee consensus decision-making model

- Basic computer proficiency is required, as is reliable and secure internet connectivity if the applicant plans to participate in meetings online.

Per the CMM By-Law, the following individuals are ineligible due to the potential for conflict of interest:

- member of the CMM
- individuals who are current members of another regulated health profession

Time Commitment: Daytime
- Three (3) year term - Attendance at 3 to 8 committee meetings per year, generally 1 to 2 hours long (depending on the committee and business at hand) and/or 4 to 5 Council meetings per year, generally 2 to 6 hours long, during the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
