Organizational Description: SHADE, a registered charitable nonprofit, offers a culturally safe place where immigrant and refugee women and their children are supported through each step of their journey toward creating a new life, free from abuse. We offer 3 programs:
1. Directed Empowerment offers one-on-one psychosocial counselling and practical support services;
2. MIRRORS: A Reflection of Immigrant Women Building Healthy Relationships is a community group workshop program where participants break the silence and isolation of intimate partner violence and learn tools to keep safe, regain confidence, hope and resiliency;
3. EMBRACE: Immigrant Women & Children Building Resilience Together is a community group workshop series that touches on practical ways to gain confidence and learn the tools in areas of daily living and to build dynamic community connections.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Keeping in mind SHADE's financial need and goals, take on the task of managing, leading, and executing SHADE's FUNDRAISING events, with the help of volunteers.
Skills Required: Previous fundraising experience, preferably with a charitable nonprofit
Logistics management in organizing and advertising a fundraiser
Creativity, passion, commitment
Hosting events
Mobilizing volunteers
Understanding of the time it takes to put together a successful and enjoyable fundraiser accompanied with time management and organizational skills
Use of laptop or PC
Presence and Oversight of/at fundraisers
Experience in managing social media an asset
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Fundraising experience
Logistics in carrying out successful fundraisers
Money management
Volunteer management
Networking circle widened in the nonprofit community
Knowledge expanded into the social work area of intimate partner violence
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment:
We cannot specify whether the time commitment is daytime, evening, or weekend since the nature of each fundraising event or effort entails a different unique time commitment. There is much flexibility in this role. Much work can be done from home, while other work will involve in-person meetings, picking up equipment or supplies, coordinating with volunteers, etc. All we ask for is that you can be committed to this role, which for us, would help us BIG time! You will have Board support.
