Organizational Description: | Frontier College is a national literacy organization operating a wide variety of programs in locations across Canada. We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants. As Canada's original literacy organization, Frontier College has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Our programs have helped millions of Canadians improve their literacy skills, and we would love to welcome your involvement in continuing this meaningful work. |

Volunteer Opportunity Details | |
Description of Duties: | We are currently recruiting volunteer tutors to provide one-on-one reading and literacy support to students in K-6 at Frontenac School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. |
Skills Required: | We are seeking individuals who: Want to help others improve their literacy Are committed to and reliable for at least 2 hours every Monday Are comfortable working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and literacy levels Are enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding Want to make a difference in the lives of others **Please note that we unfortunately cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16** |
Skills Gained/Related Careers: | As a volunteer with Frontier College you will gain: Literacy tutoring skills Experience in supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds, different literacy levels, including EAL learners and individuals with learning disabilities Experience assisting children with formative language abilities |
