Organizational Description: The Fort Garry Rotary Villa is an Independent Living Block for Older Adults located in the heart of Fort Garry. We have 123 units and offer congregate meals for lunch and dinner. Our Tenant Resource Team has ongoing activities, events and programs that are run with support from tenants, volunteers and practicum students from Red River Polytechnic, Assiniboine College and the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Social Work. We strive to promote Healthy Aging with funding from Support Services to Seniors and to foster partnerships within community to ensure Older Adults can age in place. Our location is easy to access via transit and we are situated close to schools, churches, shopping and bike trails. We are fortunate to have community gardens and access to green spaces indoors and out making our community a vibrant and unique home for low income older adults.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Deliveries or serving of dinner to our congregate meal participants. *Currently meals are being offered as delivery only to residents units, but this may be changed to some dine in options, as pandemic restrictions are lifted in stages.*
Skills Required: Fast paced environment, must be able to carry a tray or push a cart with meals to be delivered. Must adhere to all food health and safety protocols and be prepared to work independently and as part of a team. Client facing role so patience and people skills are an asset.

Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
Dinner shift is currently between 4:00-5:00 PM. On average the number of dinners served is roughly 40. We utilize contactless delivery for the majority of our clients. Once dine in services resume, it is estimated that roughly a dozen of those clients will opt for dine in service. After meal service you are not expected to stay, if clients choose to sit and visit they will be responsible for their own clean up.
