Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The Peer Support Worker will be responsible for welcoming and supporting participants seeking services from the Koru Centre. This role is considered "non-clinical", which means that the Peer Support Mentors will not offer any therapeutic intervention, but will support participants with accessing resources and support that can help them to reach their healing goals.
Skills Required: Open, honest and compassionate individual with a desire to walk alongside other survivors throughout their healing journey.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: The Peer Support Mentor is trauma-informed and is willing to share some of their own experiences to help participants heal from their victimization. Privacy and Confidentiality is a must for this position, as trust needs to be established to help the healing journey. Peer Support Mentors must not push their participants harder than they are willing to and must move at the speed of established trust. Peer Support Mentors are not counsellors, but people of lived experience who can help to mentor participants going through counselling services or even those going through the court system.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
No minimum or maximum time established per week. Based on the needs of the participant you are partnered with.
