Organizational Description: The mission of the Pembina Valley Humane Society is to support humane and sustainable communities for all animals through education, advocacy, respect & responsibility. PVHS is a volunteer run, non-profit organization, serving all towns in south western Manitoba.

Our purpose is to help abandoned animals by providing care for them during their stay at our shelter, finding suitable adoption placements and controlling pet overpopulation by ensuring all of our animals are spayed or neutered.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: This individual would provide positive and professional leadership to both the Board and the shelter as a whole, ensuring effective action in governing and supporting the organization. They would ensure that board matters are handled properly and aligned with shelter policies, preparation of pre-meeting materials such as agendas, committee functioning, and recruitment and orientation of new board members. This individual would also take on a role of support and development for our Shelter Management Team, in collaboration with the Management Committee. It is expected that this individual will have a commitment to the purpose, mission, and values of the PVHS.
Skills Required: Essential skills and experience needed for this role include:

- Experience in a leadership role
- Strong organizational and "multitasking" skills
- Diplomacy and tactfulness
- Well-spoken and articulate
- Understanding of financial matters
- Knowledge of Robert's Rules of Orders is considered an asset
- Prior experience sitting on an active or working board is considered an asset
- Past education / experience in Business Development, Human Resources, Non-Profit Advocacy, or Management would be considered assets
Skills Gained/Related Careers: As the Chair of the Pembina Valley Humane Society, you will gain leadership, governance, coaching, and mentorship experience.
