CCMB is responsible for providing care, treatment and support across the entire cancer service spectrum - from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and care, and palliation or end of life care.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: CancerCare Manitoba's Prevention and Screening Program is looking for Manitobans to provide input as Public Advisors for a lung cancer screening project. The project will develop materials to help educate people at increased risk for lung cancer.
Public Advisors will offer feedback on public communication tools as a member of the community and general public.
We need advisors who:
- smoke or have a history of smoking
- are willing to share personal experiences, ideas and thoughts in a meaningful way
- have minimal knowledge about cancer
Applications are now being accepted for participation over the next two months.
All Public Advisors will be compensated for their time.
Note that during COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Public Advisors will only be participating by telephone or online from home.
Skills Required: -Limited knowledge about cancer.
- Willingness to share personal experiences and perspectives in a meaningful way.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Respectful of others and able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to engage with health care providers and other members of the public.
- Interest in public health information.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Public Advisor Volunteers will provide the public perspective to CancerCare Manitoba in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of prevention and screening educational materials and services.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
The time commitment is three to four meetings of 1 - 2 hours in length, and some pre-meeting review.
