Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The role of the finance committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for MRDA.
Areas of responsibilities include:
1. Budgeting and Financial Planning
%u2022 Develop an annual operating budget.
%u2022 Approve the budget within the finance committee.
%u2022 Monitor adherence to the budget.
%u2022 Set long-range financial goals along with funding strategies to achieve them.
2. Internal Controls and Accountability Policies
%u2022 Create, approve, and update (as necessary) policies that help ensure the assets of MRDA are
%u2022 Ensure policies and procedures for financial transactions are documented in a manual, and
the manual is reviewed annually, and updated as necessary.
%u2022 Ensure approved financial policies and procedures are being followed.
3. Audit Planning
%u2022 Recruit and select the auditor.
%u2022 Review the draft audit
%u2022 Present the audit report to the board for approval
4. Investment Planning
%u2022 Draft an investment policy detailing the objectives of the investment portfolio, guidelines on
the asset allocation of the portfolio based on a predetermined level of risk tolerance,
authorizations for executing transactions, disposition of earned income, etc.
%u2022 Ensure provisions of the policy are followed.
%u2022 Review the policy at least annually and update if necessary.
%u2022 Hire and evaluate the investment managers/advisors.
5. Bookkeeping
%u2022 Participate in bookkeeping tasks to ensure MRDA's financial records are consistently up-todate,
accurate and complete.

The Board of Directors meets on the last Tuesday of every month with the exception of December, July and August. Most work for the position can be done virtually.
