Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Rise is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with mental health conditions or addiction achieve financial independence through self-employment or small business ownership. We provide resources, mentorship and micro-financing to eliminate barriers, improve life outcomes and strengthen communities. You can learn more about rise on our website www.risehelps.ca.

We are looking for Volunteer Mentors, who have a minimum of 5 years of business and/or professional experience and want to make a difference and guide an aspiring business owner.

Mentors provide one-on-one business advice to Rise lending clients in-person (when permitted), by phone, email and/or face-to-face messaging (Zoom, Skype, Facetime etc.). By the time a match is made, the client has produced a business plan, have been approved for financing and will be ready to start or grow their businesses.

The relationship is mentee-driven, meaning the mentee should be the one driving the relationship. We aim to provide clients with mentors whose areas of professional strength overlap with their needs. The mentor pair will identify some initial goals for their partnership, with the assistance of the Business Advisor, at their first meeting.
Skills Required: business skills: marketing, accounting, budgeting, networking, customer service, etc.

Minimum of 5 years of (post-grad) for-profit business experience that can add value to an entrepreneur's business.

Digital marketing, branding, e-commerce, website design, legal issues, cross-provincial experience, food regulations, export/import, human resources, tax accounting, entrepreneurship, and small business expertise/skills, and other.

It fights stigma: Volunteering time with someone with mental illness is a powerful tool for changing attitudes

Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Monthly business mentoring sessions of 1-1.5 hours in duration with your mentee for a period of 12 months. You can also expect to provide periodic phone and email support as needed for 1-3 hours monthly. Mentors require a minimum of 5 years post-grad for-profit business experience.
