Organizational Description: Do anything, be anything, achieve everything is our mantra at Camp Quality. We are a national charitable organization devoted to providing free camp experiences and year-round programming for children with cancer.

Camp Quality Manitoba uses the facilities of Variety Camp Brereton which is situated on Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, in the Canadian Shield. We are lake side with a swimming beach and boat dock including canoes, paddle boats and kayaks, which get used on a daily basis. Variety has developed the site each year and last year unveiled a fabulous new building to increase their indoor space for rainy days as well as many other options.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: The Program Coordinator will support the mission of Camp Quality by assisting with the planning and developing of activities, schedules, entertainment, materials and resources for camper programs. The position will assist in ensuring programs and activities demonstrate the fundamentals of intentional programming and will creatively plan outcome-based activities that are adapted to the medical, psychosocial and developmental needs of our campers. Reports to Camp Director.

%u2022Before Camp:
o Review Camp Report from previous season for recommendations
o Plan and Develop camp schedule (keeping in mind budget, accessibility and age)
o Review the schedule with the Camp Director, Assistant Director and Medical Coordinator to ensure it meets the needs of an intentional program
o Review the schedule with the Medical Director to ensure it meets the needs of campers and staff.
o Support the Camp Director with Risk Assessments as needed.
o Submit schedule to Sr. Director of Programs for review.
o Liaise with Third-Party Visitors to ensure they know the requirements of being on-site and schedule.
o Create a procurement list for program supplies for approval by the Camp Director.
o Keep COC informed of schedule and any changes.
o Prepare the schedule to be sent out to families 2-3 weeks in advance of camp.

%u2022During Camp:
o Ensure third-party visitors are briefed on policies and have signed waivers
o Provide a duty of care to all participants. Monitor, report and record risks/ hazards.
o Ensure child protection requirements are met and report non-compliance.
o Be a positive role model and lead by example
o Lead camp programs, entertainment and meals and support Camp Leadership Team; ensuring everyone knows the daily schedule
o Train Activity and Program Leaders during Volunteer Training
o Support and supervise activity volunteers and give feedback with support of the Volunteer Coordinator.
o Ensure all programs and leaders have appropriate supplies.

%u2022Previous experience working with children and/or special needs populations in a camp setting preferred.
%u2022Proven experience in facilitating activities with children and youth.

%u2022Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
%u2022Demonstrate flexibility, creative problem-solving and optimism in the face of obstacles.
%u2022Confidence in public speaking and leading large groups
