Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: President - Our President position is currently vacant, and our Past President is acting in the role. Should you be interested in taking on this position, you will have the guidance and mentorship of our Past President to support you in leading our team. This role is for a two-year term.
Vice-President - This role serves as an opportunity for those who wish to take on the role of President in the future to gain experience. The Vice-President fulfills the President's role when the President is not available.
Secretary - The Secretary is responsible for preparing, maintaining and distributing meeting minutes. This role is for a two-year term.
Treasurer - The Treasurer is responsible for the care and custody of the financial assets of the organization. Currently, the financial documents of the association are up-to-date and have been reviewed by an accountant.This role is for a two-year term.
We are also seeking Board Officers to take on a variety of roles/tasks, including chair positions of sub-committees. For example, we are currently seeking an Editor of the Newsletter, TEAL Manitoba Liaison and Conference Committee Chair. Please contact us for more information about other possible roles.
Finally, we are seeking Board Members-at-Large. Members-at-Large may join the Board without taking on a specific role in order to familiarize themselves with the procedures and practices of the Board. They are then encouraged to take on a formal position.
Skills Required: The ideal candidate would be familiar with the teaching practice of ESL/EAL and with the sector generally. Teaching credentials are not required, but experience in the field is highly valued. Related qualifications and experience will also be considered. Prior experience on a board is an asset, but we are willing to train those without prior board experience. For the position of Treasurer, experience or training in keeping books and maintaining budgets is needed.
