Organization Name: Orioles Bike Cage
Address: 444 Burnell St.
Winnipeg MB  R3G 2H4
Organizational Description: A Valour Community Center Program and volunteer run community bike shop serving the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community and the city of Winnipeg since 2009. We recycle and refurbish bicycles and teach participants how to fix their bikes.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Orioles Bike Cage is overloaded with scrap! We're up to our ears in rubber, steel and aluminum. We're looking for environmentally minded volunteers to help get our surplus to the right places: scrap yards and rubber recycling plants. Not only does this clear our floor space, but it raises money for the Bike Cage's programs. We also feel good knowing it's going to be reused and repurposed rather than going to the dump.
Skills Required: Basic communication, minimal dexterity and hand strength, capable of bending, stooping and lifting 50lbs.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Scrappers will learn basic tool use, and some relatable bike knowledge. You'll become familiar with some of the city's recycling infrastructure.
Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
No commitment necessary! Attend our shop during weekly shop hours to volunteer when you want to. You are encouraged to attend the next volunteer orientation on June 23rd.
