Description of Duties: See Spot Read Program:

See Spot Read is a dog therapy program that benefits children who have difficulty with their confidence when it comes to reading.

These sessions are offered for groups of 6 children at the Winnipeg Humane Society as well as in schools.  The students spend half of the hour  reading  and  the  other  half  doing  a  fun  literacy-based  activity.  When they participate at our shelter location, they also get to see what we do at the Winnipeg Humane Society to help animals.

The Activity:

Individuals 18 years or older, who wish to support the See Spot Read Program. Volunteers assist by setting up the space and engage children in a fun literacy based educational activity as part of the rotation of the reading program.
Skills Required: - Must complete a zoom interview with our volunteer coordinator.
- Very outgoing and friendly with keen interest in working with children
- Polite and professional individual who is neat and tidy
- Desire to become educated on the society's mission, programs and services
- Must be willing to commit to a minimum of one weekly session for a full 10 week season.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: This is a great opportunity for education, child care or anyone wanting to get more experience working with children.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
This program runs Monday to Friday during school hours with 10 week sessions running from October-December, January-March or April-June.
