Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: To ensure that the computer & network needs of the MGS Resource Centre and provincial branches are met for both our volunteers and patrons.
Skills Required: Provides for the maintenance and update of computers in the Resource Centre. PHP code & SQL db maintenance with clear communications skills in English.
Hardware & Operating Systems: Maintains upgrades for internet connections, server & router as necessary. Compiles up to date documentation of specs & configuration of hardware & operating systems. Provides consultation for volunteers & any troubleshooting required.
User Services: inventories software, program applications, inventory data files, provided computer related assistance with internet links, with library catalogue; provided technical assistance for the back end of the website.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Working with a variety of applications related to research databases. Working with volunteers with diverse levels of knowledge.
Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment:
We require a one year minimum commitment to any committee understanding that there are no paid jobs in our organization - we are all volunteers. Time is flexible and will vary according to which volunteer you will be training with. Interviews will be set up according to availability. Both on and off site work depending on the tasks.
