Organizational Description: LITE's mission is to promote Community Economic Development (CED) by supporting inner city programs in Winnipeg that provide jobs and training opportunities to the chronically underemployed. We do this by providing grants to partner organizations running these specific programs and by making strategic purchases to support the inner-city economy and employment. LITE directs donations to support jobs, and more importantly, to help people who want to overcome the challenges they face. Our name says it all: We invest locally toward employment.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: LITE is looking for 2-3 mature volunteer mentors/supervisors to oversee the production of 200+ beeswax wraps, made by women living in the North End community.
The project is part of LITE's effort to create "harm reductions jobs" for members of our community who have few positive option available to them to earn money in a positive, caring and supportive environment. Products made by women are to be sold to the general public at a later date.

Duties include (training provided):
- Setting up / cleaning up the kitchen for production
- Welcoming and signing in women coming to make wraps
- Providing training and guidance to women making wraps
- Ensuing quality control of product made
- Distributing honorariums for time worked and filling out paperwork
Skills Required: - Position requires working alongside women who are marginalized by "mainstream" society
- Position requires working with hot wax, irons, and ovens
- Supervising and guiding others who may have little or no work experience
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Must:
- Come to this work from a strengths-based, non-judgemental perspective
- Be available during the day, preferably for at least 3 sessions.

Impact of volunteer work:
- Women earn money for the time they spend making wraps.
- Women experience a positive work-based experience.
- Women become and/or maintain a connection to a caring community-based organization.
