Organizational Description: Dalnavert Museum and Visitors' Centre is a non-profit organization focused on promoting and preserving local arts, culture and heritage.

Originally the home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, the house was restored in the 1970s to reflect life in Winnipeg in 1895. In 2005, the adjoining Visitors' Centre was built to help Dalnavert expand its programming.

The Museum offers tours and educational programs, while the Visitors' Centre serves as a rental space for meetings and private functions.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Friends of Dalnavert Museum is the registered charity that owns and operates Dalnavert Museum and Visitors' Centre located at 61 Carlton St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dalnavert is the restored 1895 home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, son of Sir John A. Macdonald, and his family. Our mission is to preserve and maintain the museum's buildings, grounds, and collection; to present engaging programs and exhibits that interpret the history of the house and Winnipeg's early heritage for visitors; and to develop partnerships and programming that will make Dalnavert a cultural centre for city residents.

We are currently seeking two volunteers to share the role of Dalnavert Gift Shop Coordinator. The position requires some retail, marketing and display experience, plus the ability to work independently, recruiting and partnering with local consignment artists.

The current gift shop model is based on resale of good quality donated items. Future planning includes: conversion to POS system, adding local consignment vendors and making use of on-line marketing sites. The Coordinator will assist and/or take on implementing these plans as well as tending to the day to day requirements of the gift shop.

Day-to-day duties would include:
- Solicit donations from volunteers, visitors, personal friends and contacts
- Receive donated items, check to be sure they are appropriate, clean and undamaged
- Price donations; using personal experience and/or information from on-line marketing sites
- Develop consignment partnerships
- Stock the gift shop
- Rotate displays regularly in order to keep the gift shop fresh
