Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Watch Ambassadors are responsible for promoting a safer and friendlier downtown by patrolling the streets and skywalk systems, serving as extra "eyes and ears" to assist the Winnipeg Police Service.

1. Patrol Duties
- Provide directions, general assistance, referrals and visit businesses on your beat
- Follow all assignments from staff supervisor including: dispatches, prime time patrols, safe walks, reporting safety concerns or traffic hazards, graffiti, special attentions, intoxicated individuals, aggressive panhandling etc.
- Keep a daily record of all activities witnessed, notify authorities of all criminal or suspicious activities and submit written reports when requested;
- Assist the BIZ as required with all programs and events, as well as other partner and sponsor events.
- Participate in all training activities as required

2. Customer Service
- Maintain visibility and providing assistance to the public as needed
- Visit businesses to promote various events and programs
Skills Required: - High School Diploma, Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
- Related work and/or volunteer experience
- Customer service experience
- Knowledge of downtown Winnipeg
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification is considered an asset
- Additional languages are considered an asset
- Enthusiastic, outgoing and positive attitude
- Physically fit and able to walk multiple kilometers a day
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of team
Skills Gained/Related Careers: This position is an excellent opportunity for those individuals who are studying in the field of criminology, criminal justice and other related social sciences. This position is ideal for individuals interested in volunteering in a dynamic and challenging environment, helping the downtown safe for everyone

Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Minimum committment of 12 hours a month Monday through Sunday 8am - 12pm 12pm - 4pm 4pm - 8pm 8pm - 12am
