Organizational Description: We are an independent living community comprised primarily of 55 plus residents. We are owned by Manitoba housing and are managed by our Board of Directors who are active members of the Rotary Club. Working in conjunction with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Support Services to seniors and many other community supports we strive to help seniors age in place. We offer recreation activities, in house special events, outings and a Congregate Meal Program that runs Monday through Friday from 4-6:30 pm.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Requirements / Duties include:
Adhering to safe workplace practices. Ability to stand or walk for up to 2 hours.
Setting tables and delivering plated food (must be able to carry up to 5 lbs.)
Pouring of coffee, tea and water, (must be able to lean across tables and/or countertops and bend over to retrieve items from the floor if necessary).
%u2022 Patience and a friendly disposition is a MUST.
Skills Required:  The Fort Garry Rotary Villa is seeking volunteers for our congregate meal program. We are a 55+ independent living complex with roughly 50 clients who dine in our common area Mondays through Fridays.
We usually ask that volunteers commit to one shift per week.
 If you have an interest or experience in the service industry, health, nutrition, community development, gerontology or you just enjoy meeting new people and have a passion for contributing to your community, then we would love to have you be a part of our team
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Hospitality Industry, Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, Food & Nutrition Sciences, Home Care Aides, Nursing, Community Development, Housing and Healthy Aging.
Seniors are the largest segment of our population. Gaining first hand knowledge of their unique challenges will give you insight and is an asset in any field of study or career.
We are conveniently located at 528 Hudson street, just behind St. Maurice School off of Chevrier Blvd.
Age: 17 and under, 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
We have shifts avaialble during lunch time (11:45 am - 1 pm) and in the evenings from 4:30 pm to 6 PM.  I am looking to fill shifts for: Dinner Service Lunch Service
