Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Facilitate learning opportunities for youth that are focused on issues related to hunger and poverty, while participating in current youth programming at Winnipeg Harvest. These programs include but are not limited to: Empty Bowls in Schools program; Community Engagement Talks; Living on Less Workshop; and Partnership for Change program.

1. Speak at public education events: classroom presentations; in house activities; information booths; etc.

2. Coordinate visiting school groups and their volunteer activities with the Winnipeg Harvest warehouse

3. Facilitate lessons, activities, and classroom visits related to the various programs

4. Provide feedback and support in creating educational resources

5.Provide feedback and support in creating additional youth programming

6. On call (with a minimum of 1 week notice)

7. Shifts depending on school requests (from 30 minute sessions to full day events)

8. Available during daytime and evening hours in September June

9. Participate in ongoing training evaluations by the employment and training staff

10. Contribute to healthy team environment through feedback and identifying gaps
Skills Required: 1. Must enjoy working with a wide variety of people including: children and youth; teachers; and within classrooms

2. Experience working with children and youth is a substantial asset

3. Friendly and outgoing; comfortable leading groups and being in charge

4. Able to comfortably speak with the general public in an engaging manner

5. Comfortable working in a warehouse setting: sitting; standing; walking; bending; and lifting as required

6. Willing to undergo a Criminal Record check and Child Abuse Registry check as required

7. Work independently and cooperatively within a team

8. Problem solve when faced with challenges
