Description of Duties: Volunteer Soccer Coaches provide additional opportunities for children and youth to interact with positive role models, build positive relationships with responsible adults who care about them and are invested in them. They also provide additional support to IRCOM staff and expand the range of programming IRCOM is able to provide to our children.

Position Summary
The Volunteer Soccer Coach role is to create a positive learning environment where the children learn sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork, and responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities

%u2022Act as a positive role model at all times
%u2022Actively engage with children and participate in program activities
%u2022Build relationships with the children in a way appropriate to their age
%u2022Maintain good communication with IRCOM staff
%u2022Assist with set up and clean up
%u2022Be familiar with program guidelines and help enforce them as needed and appropriate
%u2022Ask IRCOM staff for assistance as needed and appropriate
%u2022Speak English during program times
%u2022Minimize distractions (turn off cell phones)x
%u2022Sign in and out of each shift
%u2022Lead and or assist practice sessions for IRCOM soccer teams
%u2022Teach fundamental skills to the children while emphasizing skill development, fair play, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun.
%u2022Be 30 minutes early for all practices and games or notify IRCOM ASP staff 48 hours prior if not available to attend
Skills Required: -Must be friendly and approachable
-Must be sensitive to cultural differences and the impact of previous experiences on children
-Must be flexible, as programs sometimes change last minute
-Experience working with children an asset, but not required
-Experience as a newcomer or working with newcomers an asset, but not required
-Must complete required trainings provided by IRCOM (see below)
-Must complete a satisfactory criminal record check and child abuse registry check
-Must be 18 years or older
-Must hold a valid Respect in Sport Coach/Activity leader course
-Completion of the Canada Soccer Community Coaching Stream (Active Start, FUNdamentals, Active Start/FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Soccer for Life) is desired
-Prior experience as player or coach in Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association is desired

Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend
Working Conditions Varied, usually at University of Winnipeg Recplex but also IRCOM for transportation to and from matches to be played at either University of Winnipeg Recplex, University of Manitoba Subway Soccer Centre, and Seven Oaks Soccer facility, indoors, usually wheelchair accessible (can't guarantee for field trips), full of youthful energy, can be loud, movement and standing required Time Requirements This position requires volunteers to commit to attending to at least 1 practice a week and games as scheduled by the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA).
