Organizational Description: Urban Stable provides Equine Facilitated Learning Programs to youth in grades 5-12 through 4 unique programs. Equine Facilitated Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine activities.

Urban Stable is an accredited Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) centre and follows the high standards and safety guidelines provided by them.

Our Mission: To provide an educational horseback riding program together with public schools that empowers students to stay connected with their education.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Volunteer Horse Handlers/Youth Assistants support the students one-on-one in our equine facilitated learning program to groom, lead and ride their horse. Volunteers will lead the horse as the students are learning to ride.
Skills Required: Horse experience preferred.
Experience with at risk youth, or those with disabilities.
Be available during the day (Tues., Wed., Thurs.)
Able to transport self to program location (located 15 mins west of perimeter).
Able to attend orientation on Thursday September 12th, 2019 and volunteer training on September 17th and 18th, 2019.

Time Commitment: Daytime
Volunteers are asked to commit to one class per week for 10 weeks in the fall and 14 weeks in the spring to provide consistency to the students and horses. Volunteer sessions are either mornings (9:30am-12noon) or afternoons (1:00pm - 3:30pm) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
