Organizational Description: Established as a community project and social service of Thrive aims to empower families and individuals by providing volunteer opportunities where individuals can learn employment, social and life skills and gain work experience! We work with newcomers, individuals overcoming mental health crisis as well as volunteers from various programs including disability programs,work experience programs, the Fine Options program, and volunteers doing court-mandated community service.

Volunteers gain employment references, fulfill mandated court orders, obtain volunteer reward benefits from EIA, interact with the community and so much more. Our awesome volunteers help to support community needs and by doing this we can offer a valuable service by providing affordable clothing, toys, linens & household items. All of the proceeds benefit the programs at the Resource Centre.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Clothing pricers are responsible for ensuring that all items that end up in the store are suitable for sale and are fairly priced. While their work is mostly "behind the scenes", they are essential to the store in that they ensure that we have a steady stream of good quality items available for customers.

- Searching for specialty clothing for pricing, moving each item to the correct area of the warehouse.
- Check each item to ensure that it is suitable for sale in the store. Ensure that items to be sold are clean and in good condition. Make decisions about what items should be sold, passed on, or thrown away.
- Store seasonal items in the correct locations until the proper seasons.

- Mark the price on clothing items to be sold, using the price charts as guidelines.

- Consult with other volunteers or the Coordinator if unsure about the suitability of an item for sale, or about the prices of exceptional items.
- Clean the work area at the end of the shift.
Skills Required: This position is open to all age groups (over 18), but is ideal for clothing and thrifting aficionados, knowing labels and brand names and how much they were originally sold for.

The position's requirements are:
- A good eye for assessing value. Able to distinguish between good quality items and cheaper items, and able to assess the usefulness of items.
- Able to move boxes and bags of donations, as needed. (This is negotiable if volunteers have physical limitations.)
- Reliable in coming for scheduled shifts, or phoning in advance if unavailable or sick.
- Able to fulfill minimum time commitment (see below).
- Able to understand and follow directions in English.
- Excited about working with others who are from diverse backgrounds.
- Exciting about working in the inner-city.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: - Experience working with others who are from diverse backgrounds.
- Skills in distinguishing the value of different items.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime
- (Preferably) one 3-hour shift per week. - Shifts are available in the mornings (9:30-12:30) and afternoons (1:00-4:00), Monday to Friday. This is flexible.
