Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Work closely with the Injury Prevention Program Coordinator to plan and organize program events and activities related to Injury Prevention activities, SmartStart programs and other Safety and Prevention activities.


Be a helpful observer at SMARTSTART presentations or outreach injury prevention activities delivered to groups of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers to Canada.
Enter data into Excel spreadsheets.
Modify SmartStart PowerPoint presentation as required.
Photocopy and file documents.
Maintain supplies and assist with clean up in physical storage space and electronic files.
Coordinate preparation of presentation packages and materials as needed.
Schedule volunteers for Injury Prevention events.
Conduct Internet research on various injury prevention topics.
Provide feedback and ongoing content support to the program coordinator.
Attend events and activities as a representative of the program.
Assist in the implementation of team meetings.
Work collaboratively within a team to build positive internal and external relationships.
Assist to organize team building, content updates, and training for the Injury Prevention team members.
Drive to presentation locations in Winnipeg if necessary.
Skills Required: What You bring to the organization

Excellent communication, organization and facilitation skills.
Cultural awareness and sensitivity are required.
Highly responsible and able to take initiative, problem solve and manage time effectively.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Fluency in a second language is a definite asset.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are required.
Experience working with diverse populations is an asset.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
Strong interest in or experience in adult education and/or injury prevention.
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence an asset. Be able to provide an acceptable driver's abstract.
Emergency First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain.
Understand and support the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
Completion of successful Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Checks.

Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Approximately 8 - 10 hours per month. Program team meetings quarterly. Daytime availability is required, evening and weekend availability an asset. Flexible schedule and occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
