Organizational Description: Frontier College is a national literacy organization operating a wide variety of programs in locations across Canada.

We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants.

As Canada's original literacy organization, Frontier College has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Our programs have helped millions of Canadians improve their literacy skills, and we would love to welcome your involvement in continuing this meaningful work.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Frontier College operates a numbers of literacy support programs across Winnipeg, all with the focus of helping children,youth, adults, and families who want to improve their literacy skills. We currently work with Women's Correctional Centre to deliver volunteer-run, community-focused programs for women who are incarcerated.
We will provide free training to anyone accepted as a Frontier College volunteer. We will continue to provide you with any additional support or resources throughout your tutoring experience.

Skills Required: We are seeking individuals who:
- Are looking for experience in the Justice system
- Want to help others improve their literacy
- Are committed to and reliable for at least 2 hours of volunteering per week
- Are comfortable working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and literacy levels
- Are enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding
- Want to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others

**Please note that unfortunately we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16.**
Skills Gained/Related Careers: As a volunteer with Frontier College, you will gain:
- Literacy tutoring skills
- Time and experience in the Justice system
- Experience in supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds, different literacy levels
- Experience assisting adults with formative language abilities
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
Tutoring times are available Monday-Sunday daytime and evening
