Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Objective:
Do you enjoy using your hard work and skills to improve the world around you? Make a difference in the lives of people with vision loss by keeping their environment tidy and maintained. As an energetic maintenance assistant, who is good at troubleshooting and fixing things, you will fit right in with our dynamic team of professionals.

Responsibilities & Tasks:
Volunteers do not have direct contact with clients within this role although you may interact with volunteers, participants and staff who are clients.

Tasks may vary widely depending on requirements; however, position will include:
- Attendance as agreed upon
- Sign in and receive your task/supplies
- Performing routine building maintenance duties including painting (touch-ups), minor repairs, moving of furniture and other materials, ensuring exterior of building and grounds is clean
- Return all materials and sign out at end of shift
- Track and report volunteer hours as directed
Skills Required: Qualities, Skills and Training:
- Physically able to do the required tasks including the ability to bend, kneel, stoop or move and lift heavy items; ability to stand or work for extended periods of time
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and other documents as required
- Knowledge of basic maintenance functions
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about job specifics
- Willingness to learn and work with people with sight loss
- Orientation, including: About CNIB, About the people we help, About sight loss, and About volunteering at CNIB
-Training specific to the position
- Minimum 21 years old

Preliminary Screening:
- Level 2: application form, interview, character-reference. Completion of declaration forms: Code of Conduct

Supervision and Ongoing Screening:
- One-month probation period. Supervisor is available for ongoing training and support.
