Organization Name: Manitoba Association of Playwrights
Address: 503-100 Arthur Street
Winnipeg MB  R3B 1H3
Organizational Description: The Manitoba Association of Playwrights (MAP) nurtures excellence in Manitoba playwriting, and champions playwrights, plays, and new theatre creation.  Formed in 1979 and incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable in 1984, MAP is the only organization in the province devoted exclusively to new theatre creation. We have played a crucial and invaluable role in nurturing and supporting a countless number of professional plays that have graced provincial, national and international stages over the last four decades, as well as supporting many of the locally developed Winnipeg Fringe Festival plays, working with community theatres and university programs, and producing the Scirocco High School Playwriting Competition for the last 19 years.

Description of Duties: The Manitoba Association of Playwrights' Board meetings are held once a month from September through June. There is an Annual General Meeting each year in late September/early October. Governance, financial, artistic, and accountability issues are regularly reviewed at the Board level. Committees are formed ad hoc, as needed.
Skills Required: Some experience on a Board of Directors would be beneficial but not mandatory. We are currently looking for new members who have expertise in fundraising and information technology. Although experience in theatre is not required, a general interest in the performing arts is essential.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: You will gain Board experience and an understanding of governance for charitable organizations, as well an appreciation for and knowledge of the performing arts and theatre in Manitoba, particularly new play creation.
