Organizational Description: The Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba (ADAM) was formed in 1986, for and by people suffering from anxiety disorders. We receive expert, ongoing, and current advice from specialists in this field. This year, we are celebrating 30 years of serving Manitobans with anxiety!

We are a peer-led organization; our staff has personally experienced and overcome the disabling effects of anxiety, and is now sharing that knowledge and hope with others.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Phone, Email & Walk-In Support

- Provide callers & walk-in visitors with information about anxiety disorders & accompanying symptoms, ADAM Programs and Services and the intake process required to access these services
- Provide referral to other mental health resources in the community.
- Responding to email queries regarding the above information using the template provided.
- Provide peer support using Cognitive Behaviour techniques to individuals calling in with high anxiety and/or panic attack. These calls can be lengthy and may be upsetting. A calm, supportive voice is required and training will be provided.
- Provide peer support to walk-in visitors experiencing the above when no other ADAM supporters are available.

Administrative Duties

- Photocopy and assemble intake packages ready for mailing to people requesting ADAM services.
- Maintain adequate supplies of office forms, brochures and handouts.
- Order office supplies when necessary.
- Mail and log ADAM brochures and other literature
- Maintain file system and update resource lists - both computer and hard copies
- Maintain supply room - room cleanliness and keep adequate literature inventory
- Prepare statistical reports for Winnipeg and all ADAM Outreach branches (monthly), donor lists (ongoing), DASS21 scores from program participants (Template provided).
- Receive and process credit card & cash payments for donations, literature, and programs
- Assist in arranging meetings, gatherings and recognition events as requested
- Maintain volunteer information and hours
- Keep phone and email answering messages up to date
- Manage registration for Special Events and participate in occasional Special Events
- Update website and Facebook pages as requested
- Maintain office equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Ensures that all processes are consistent with ADAM guidelines
- Understand and adhere to ADAM's Code of Confidentiality
- Report all crisis situations immediately to the Executive Director or designate.
- Assist Executive Director, staff and committees as required
- Other duties as assigned
Skills Required: - MUST have lived-experience with anxiety with symptoms moderated; Graduated from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) program at ADAM, Health Sciences Centre, or St. Boniface Hospital;
- Criminal Record and Working with Vulnerable People background check clearance.
- Preference given to those with Peer Support experience & have undergone Mental Health First Aid and ASIST courses

- Experience in providing general office and administrative support;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision;
- A good team player with strong oral and written communication;
- Office organization, and computer skills in Microsoft and Google Applications;
- Calm and supportive demeanour when interacting with potential or existing clients; Willing to participate in necessary training as required.
