Organizational Description: Ai-Kon is a registered non-profit organization that hosts Manitoba's premier and largest anime convention. It is also one of the largest conventions of its kind in Western Canada.

Our main event entails a three day celebration of video gaming, animation, and Japanese culture held annually at the Winnipeg RBC Convention Centre. We also hold a 1 day convention in February, Winterfest, with all the excitement and main events into 12 hours.

The convention is a family friendly event suitable to all ages.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Under the direction of the Coordinator solicits attending vendors, artists, other organizations, local businesses for advertisement exchanges and donations.
Renews and builds on past partnerships.
Ensure that a cash box, float and debit machine have been requested from Treasurer.
Picks up donations from businesses and organization's within Winnipeg.
Responsible for raffle prize assembly and ensures that prizes make it to the event.
Assists with the creation of a staffing schedule using department staff, raffle table sales associates and volunteered individuals.
Applies for and obtains raffle permits with MB liquor and lotteries.
Ensure that social media posts advertising raffle are submitted and that the contest page on the Ai-Kon website are updated.
Coordinates announcement and prize draw and supplies needed for announcements.
Compiles sales report for treasurer.
Skills Required: Candidates must have valid drivers licenses and access to a vehicle.
Excellent writing skills are a requirement.
Previous sales, public relations, marketing or external outreach experiences (an asset).
Strong time management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Skills Gained/Related Careers: Ability to build portfolio experience in the field of public relations experience and marketing.
First-hand experience with event marketing and event planning.
Leadership experience co-organizing a team of appx 6 - 12 volunteers.
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend
Organization meetings typically occur on Sundays in the afternoon. Generally the committee meeting schedule is as follows: Sept to Apr - Once a month Apr to June - Twice a month June to July - Every week 3-day 24-hour convention in July 1 day 24-hour convention in February Department meeting are additional and occur once per month. Department meetings are held once a month on a weeknight.
