Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Exciting opportunity to be part of a new mentoring program in Winnipeg! This short-term mentoring program (name to T.B.D.), aims to provide friendship and guidance to children who've been displaced from their home communities for treatment of family medical needs (primarily dialysis) in Winnipeg. Mentors are required to meet with mentees for 3 hours per week from March until June. Mentors in this position will receive an honorarium of $18 dollars per hour/$54 dollars per week.
You will be matched to 5 youth in the Garden City area. Your role will be to provide safe, fun, and consistent small group and one on one activities based on their interests. You will help your mentees attend after-school activities, cultural activities, special events, or a community center, etc.. You will share with your mentees, their parents/guardians, the United Mentoring Network, and school staff, a commitment to fostering a safe, enjoyable, meaningful, and healthy mentoring relationship.
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required. An interest in or already possessing some Indigenous cultural knowledge is an asset. The United Mentoring Network understands the importance of Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) mentors for Indigenous youth, therefore encourage Indigenous persons to apply; please self-declare in your application. A police record check, child abuse registry check, and references will be required. The cost of the record check will be covered if offered the position.

Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend
3 hours is required (to be spent according to what plans are made each week) Mentors may see 3 youth for 1.5 hours and 2 youth for 1.5 hours or all 5 youth for 3 hours. This will depend on the youth and mentors schedules.
